Black Madonna Freedom School
Summer Session I
a Black Madonna Spirituality for All People
Course Description
This exploratory course is for all who want to experience the Black Madonna’s liberating and healing power in their unique everyday experiences. Drawing from distinctly decolonial, intersectional, and Black feminist spiritual traditions – together we will discover who the Black Madonna is, why her Blackness is the key to our liberation, how she has empowered and liberated people across time and around the globe, and what she is uniquely speaking to each of us today. Whether you are new to Black Madonna spirituality or a seasoned pilgrim, you will be nourished by a robust curriculum and an inspiring kinship among other spiritually-adventurous people.
❋ Kinship + Community
Liberation doesn’t have to be lonely. Black Madonna offers us a matriarchal way of relating — where there are no hierarchies and everyone is welcome at the table.
❋ Healing + Transformation
Black Madonna spirituality is an embodied spirituality. She connects our heads (thoughts, beliefs, stories) with our bodies (emotions, action).
❋ Exploration + Adventure
Black Madonna is an imagination expander who liberates us from our addiction to certainty and emboldens us to follow her into the dark forest where her alchemical magic is made. In her sacred forest, we become magicians too.
❋ Mystic Activism + Leadership
Black Madonna is an empire-assassin AND a restorer of life. In her ever generative lap, we can nurture an abundant spirituality that reliably generates hope and creativity no matter what is going on around us.
